All Fire Alarm Systems in commercial or public buildings should be checked on a weekly and monthly basis by the owner to ensure the manual call points and detectors will activate the sounders and any power supplies are the system adequately, this should be done in accordance with BS5839-1. In addition to the weekly and monthly checks by the owner, the system should be tested by a qualified engineer either every three or six months, but no less than six monthly as set out in British Standards. Service and testing requirements should be based on a risk assessment.
